Workmix and timetabling

We get asked a lot about the mix of subjects for each Key Stage.  With experience in wiriting school timetables as well, we've put together a few things that might help:

The Naional Curriculum

These are links to documents on the Department of Education Web site, explaining what's required through Key Stages 1 and 2.  They provide a clear guide as to what you need to cover.  The Government Web site can be a nightmare to navigate (Details for maths are in a totally different place from the other subjects!); these links might just take that headache away.

Y5/Y6 Computing

Web site design

Y6 pupils with an interest in computing and coding might enjoy our slightly geeky Web Site Design course over in the Key Stage 3 section of this site.  You will find it at Key Stage 3 Computing.

Introduction to coding in Scratch (with Maths!)

The team at UCL ScratchMaths have put together a superb combination of maths ideas and an introduction to coding.  Aimed at pupils in Years 5 and 6, it's also a great intro for Year 7 pupils who haven't explored coding in Scratch before.  Highly recommended!

Music

Primary School Music

When the ABRSM teams up with Classic FM and Decca Classics, you can be sure the results are something worth looking at (and listening to!).  Some great stuff here for EYFS, KS1 and KS2: Classical 100 Primary.

Y5/Y6 Music

Here are a few ideas and resources that might help with KS2 Music - especially in Years 5 and 6.

Seasonal Stuff

OK, OK!  Christmas is getting closer, and we're uploading goodies as we find them here (among many years of learning resources!)  These are really easy, and have diagram instructions for piano/keyboard.  They are almost easy enough to be "teach yourself piano/keyboard" material:

Wordsearches

While they're not hugely educational, Wordseaches can be fun, and help a little with remembering vocabulary and spelling.  Here are a few wordsearches using musical terms.  Be careful - the answers are there as well, so watch which pages your learner is seeing!

These wordsearces may contain a few unfamiliar musical terms.  You can use this as a perfect opportunity for some cross-curricular learning, and bring in some careful information searching on the internet to find out what these words mean, and how they affect music.

Sensory Learning

Rhyming Multisensory Stories

A wonderful site dedicated to storytelling through the senses, with some superb onward links as well.  Rhyming Musltisensory Stories.
